Everything about Gene & Georgetti is amazing! I've been here before and fell in love with the Sausage & Peppers so had to find time to go back on a quick trip to Chicago. This place is authentic Chicago Italian - everything on the menu is great, it's got the dark and moody old school steakhouse vibe with Sinatra playing, and the service is top notch. This is a must-stop if you like great food, great service, and an amazing experience.

1. Food was good, but not the best 2. We sat outside, the street view was pretty 3. Our waiter was friendly 4. We did have an issue with some of our food items but they took care of it, so that was great! 5. Dessert was delicious

This was my first visit to Gene & Georgetti's. This is a legendary Chicago restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Was glad to share the experience with some customers from out of town. The Pittsburgh Rare filet was cooked perfectly and the sides were great!!

G&G always knocks it out of the park in every facet. Food is delicious, ambiance is old school, service is top tier. Bartenders Goody and Mark are always welcoming and great to hang out with. They make half the experience memorable. Steaks are always cooked perfectly to temp with that broiled salted crust you can't go wrong. Kinda pissed I got sucked into steak again because I really wanted to try chicken Joe this time and I feel like I say that every time but it's worth it. Went here for lunch last time I was in town and the sandwiches are freaking awesome also. Probably a good thing I don't live in Chicago because between this place and the pizza I would probably go bankrupt just paying for food.

Old school Chicago - but in need of a make over on the inside. The food is spectacular! We loved the prosciutto & burrata as an app and I especially enjoyed the tortellini soup! For entrees the ravioli w bolognese is lick the plate spectacular & the filet was cooked to perfection. Even after that we had to try the tiramisu (which my wife loved). Service was perfect and friendly/helpful! We had dinner at 7 pm the night before a day. The front room was full and were seated in the back. There was one very loud table & it was a bit much as they filled the room w noise. Each room could use an update/makeover - it's not classy old, it's just old.

CHICKEN JOE. Yes, Chicken Ala Joe is actually a thing, one of several G&G specialties. I forgot I reviewed this place 8 YEARS ago. Apparently, I'm getting older, because it never used to take me 24 hours to recover from a couple back-to-back early morning departures, despite flying first class - and that's without even consuming a single martini (or one of those mystery liquid drops that some local woman was offering up in the Mexican joint I dined at the night before). Sadly, my prior review here was lame, only a couple sentences, so I'm firing up an update. After years of visiting Chicago, I have two favorite dining establishments: One is in the triangle, you know which. The other, Gene & Georgetti, my love affair on the other side of town - River North. Starters. Ketel up, shaken, olives. Happy to find Mark tending bar on a Saturday, got lucky, filling in for a pal, he's the best. Ohio guy. History. I love history, this is a long-time local haunt. Since 1941. Local comfortable place. Cool bar. Upstairs dining room is nice, but I prefer downstairs where they maybe have 8 tables on the bar side, good luck grabbing one of those. Open Table nope - must know the Maître d'. I spent the week in Chicagoland and ended up here three nights, one at Table 1 and two at the bar. Select items this week we tried and shared: Caesar Salad, add Anchovies, Garbage Salad, GRILLED Calamari (Wowzer, this is a must try - forgetabout fried version), Shrimp Cocktail (they are HUGE), Porterhouse/T-Bone medium rare plus, Spaghetti Bolognese, side homemade Meatballs, Chicken Joe (spectacular dish, classic bone-in or order w/ boneless breast, broiled w/ Sweet Bell Peppers, Pepperoncinis, Italian Seasonings finished with freshly squeezed lemons. Dessert, homemade Limoncello. Check it out folks. Best local non-chain restaurant in Chicago!!!
